Google’s mobile initiative, GoMo, previously offered website owners a chance to improve how their sites did on mobile devices. Now, GoMo offers webmasters the opportunity to create free mobile sites for users to visit them away from the computer.
GoMo has partnered with DudaMobile to offer this free service for one year before having to pay for the service monthly. If you are looking for a way to go mobile with your web site, GoMo and DudaMobile may be the right stepping stone. Our guide will show you how to get started and convert your web site today.
How to get started with GoMo
Visit howtogomo.com to get started.
GoMo offers a free solution for up to one year for web sites looking for a mobile presence. In order to get started, simply enter in your web site URL and click “Make my site mobile.”
It will take a few moments for DudaMobile to load your web site into mobile format.
Once loaded, DudaMobile will identify the basic layout for your web site. In this case, it has identified VikiTech as a blog which is correct. While you do not need to necessarily follow that format for your mobile site, it is advised when you are getting started to do just that. Otherwise, you might mess up the layout conversion from web site to mobile for your users. Click “Yes, keep the blog” to continue.
On the right hand side, your web site will be loaded into a mobile preview for you to view and work with throughout the process.
You can go through the themes on the left to get started by color or other factors. When you find one you like, simply hover over it to get a larger preview of what it looks like. Click “Apply” to load it into your preview window and use it as your theme.
Click “Next” to move forward.
Now, you can work with basic or full edits on your mobile web site.
You will be able to interact directly with the preview window to help insert modules, move things around and tweak your site perfectly.
Basic Edits allow you to work with the primary components of your mobile web site whereas Full Edits allow you to work with just about everything possible for your site.
Click “Edit Header & Logo” to get an idea of how each component works.
Under Header, you can work with General, Design and More. General allows you to work with the header and title for your mobile web site.
Design will let you work with the color schemes of your site.
More will let you work on some background settings of your mobile site.
Now, if you click on “Full” edits, you will be given a bunch of component blocks on the bottom.
You can drag and drop these components into your mobile web site where you see fit.
At any time you can access your overall mobile web site settings by clicking “Settings” at the top right hand corner of your browser window.
A dropdown menu will appear, click “Site Settings” to take a look at what you can tweak.
From here, you can work with General, SEO and Advanced settings. Taking the time to fill in these details
Click “Next” once again.
You will now be presented with what you will be getting for signing up for GoMo through DudaMobile. They offer a free one year membership for you to take advantage of before having to pay as you go.
Simply create an account with DudaMobile or log into your existing account.
Once you have signed in or registered, you will have to enter in your details but not your payment information. You will not have to enter that in until the free year is up so there is no risk to you for taking advantage of what DudaMobile is offering users.
After you are completely registered, you can redirect your web site so that it appears to mobile users, too.
GoMo’s work with DudaMobile provides an alternative to webmasters who may not know how to get started going mobile with their web site. If you are looking for a way to get started, DudaMobile may be your start.
Is GoMo worth the trouble?
In today’s day and age, just about everyone is mobile. If you blog or web site is not mobile, you are losing out on vital traffic that may sink your web site in the long run. Going mobile is not hard to do, but many webmasters fail to see the potential in what a mobile version of their web site can do for them. If you own a website and do not know how to get started, give GoMo and DudaMobile a try.
With free service for a year, you can see just what an impact going mobile will have for your site. This type of impact is exactly why Google created the GoMo initiative to get website owners the chance to see how new technologies can make their web site even better.
