As you may already know that Facebook now allows you to use emoticons in comments. Most of the short cuts for the popular emoticons are the same as any other chat system. If you look in to the above list of Facebook emoticons you might be wondering about 42 and Putnam. 42 is a magical number in geek world. The context of the famed number 42 is found in the sci-fi/humor novel series The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The super computer “Deep Thought”, after computing for 7.5 million years, answers 42 to the “ultimate question of life, the universe and everything”.

Now about Putnam. Chris Putnam is a hacker best known for his Facebook hacks. In 2005 he created a worm that infected many users, including Facebook’s internal test account “The Creator”. This worm changed the look of the infected Facebook profile to My Space. Chris Putnam now works for Facebook. You can read all about his story on Quora.
