Microsoft came out with flurry of products in last few years. It got everyone confused; which OS; which IE; which product will go along with which OS; where is the update available? Web was inundated with a flurry of questions.

Windows is 8 here; perhaps windows 8 will stay for some time before any new version arrives. It is observed by many that the performance of windows 8 is slow; it takes time (more than the accepted normal time) to boot. Many pundits researched and found out the ways to speed up the performance. The methods found out are simple and are within reach of even a non-technical user.

The main tasks proposed to perform are,

  1. Optimize the drives
  2. Optimize the start-up process
  3. Optimize registry
  4. Disable your search indexing

Are you aware Microsoft has already introduced a new feature in windows 8 known as ‘fast start up’? To enable this feature, go to control panel > go to power options then choose “what power button does” > scroll down, you will find “turn on fast set up (recommended)” > turn it on.

The following are the steps known to all computer literate; I will list the activities,

  1. Disable unwanted start up programs
  2. Clean up buffer memory and unnecessary temporary files
  3. Reduce run time services
  4. Tweaking your registry will certainly help
  5. Windows 8 has upgrade assistant; download upgrade assistant and determine which software or hardware is needed and do the activities accordingly.
